Here's a selection of books by others that I've read and enjoyed and hope you will too.

“Far To Go” tells the story of the Bauers, a secular Jewish family caught up in the Nazi sweep across Europe when their home in the Sudetenland is relinquished to Hitler by Czechoslovakia. It explores the increasing sense of disbelief and isolation felt by the Bauers as events unfold and the loyalty to them of Marta, nanny to their only child, Pepik. Alison Pick interweaves the story with a present-day narrative that gradually reveals the fate of the Bauer family. I loved this book – it’s beautifully written and a great read.

"The Obituary Writer" Lauren St John

"The Obituary Writer" by Lauren St John carries an interesting premise. Nick Donoghue is an obituary writer for The Times until he is caught up in one of the UK's worst ever train crashes. He is the only survivor to emerge completely unscathed but things take a sinister turn when everyone he dreams about dies the next day. Escaping to Cornwall for some rest and recuperation he creates a whole new life for himself that promises a bright future. Until....This is beautifully written & satisfying to read.

Two Brothers - Ben Elton

"The First Phone Call from Heaven" combines Mitch Albom's customary mix of magic and heart-warming fantasy as it tells the story of a small American town where people begin to receive telephone calls from deceased loved ones. But can it be real? And do you believe? This will make you feel as warm inside as a big mug of hot chocolate.

Hearts & Minds - Alison Craig

Hearts & Minds explores the London inhabited by illegal immigrants and an underclass forced into often brutal activities in their quest for survival. It's not always an easy read, but the characters are well drawn, plausible and mostly sympathetic but most of all Amanda Craig's portrayal of the city will have you looking more closely at those you pass in the street.

A twisting, turning true story about two brothers from a Jewish family in Berlin who have to come to terms with the impending Holocaust despite a secret that could save one of them from the Nazis.
